Join The DODS

Are you interested in becoming involved in Dursley’s thriving community theatre group? We love to hear from you – whatever your interest, experience or age.

Here are 10 great ways you can get involved:

On-stage

If you’ve always fancied playing the wicked snow queen, or taking a part in one of your favourite musicals or plays, there is plenty of opportunity to tread the boards. We produce a play, pantomime and musical each year so we always need lots of willing actors.

Set construction & Paintshop

How’s your DIY skills? Making sets for stage is actually really challanging. Years ago the team had to make a working 6ft clock that lit-up! Our backstage team meet every Tuesday (and sometimes Thursday’s) in our workshops and get creative making & painting our amazing scenery and stage sets.

Front of House

We hold four productions a year in the Lister Hall, Chantry Centre, so we need a great team to make the smooth running of these events. This includes stewarding, box office, refreshments, programme and ice cream selling. Also we provide training for those who would like to be Front of House managers.

Props

Finding props for the right era can be really good fun – trawling junk shops to attics for the items that look just right on stage

Backstage

The backstage team is the final piece of the puzzle to a great show, Behind the black tabs is a team of hardworking unsung hero’s who are always one step ahed building the next scene.

Lighting & Sound

Another hidden team is the Lighting & Sound department. Do you know what a DMX cable is? If not we’d love to show you. Join this team whatever your technical background and help run a smooth show!

Costumes

We’re very proud of our wardrobe that has grown over the decades with costumes from our many productions. We do hire certain costumes from time to time, but we try to make our own or re-use as much as possible. A great way to get involved if you love sewing, dress making and costume design.

Singing

Do you love belting out classic show tunes in the shower, or singing along to Elaine Paige on Radio Two on a Sunday? There is plenty of opportunity to sing your heart out in our annual musical or traditional family pantomime

Directing & Stage management

Crucial jobs at the heart of our society – hard work but they provide immense satisfaction and rewards. Whether you’ve got experience or just a desire to take on these important roles, we’d love to hear from you.

Junior DODS

We have a thriving junior theatre group for young people of secondary school age. They meet generally from February through to the summer, with a programme of workshops and rehearsals leading up to an annual production. We are also always looking for adults interested in helping to run the junior section.
